Happy Book Giving Day!

Happy International Book Giving Day!

International Book Giving Day is celebrated on 14th February and aims to increase children's access to books and, of course, their enthusiasm for them. What a wonderful initiative.

So, here are the books that I gave today:

I gave my Son, James (5yrs) a copy of How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell. We have been reading a LOT of dragon books lately, so I thought this would be a great addition to our dragon book collection. I am looking forward to reading it together.

Emily (2yrs) was lucky enough to pick her own book as she came shopping with me when I purchased the books. She chose Disney Ballerina Princesses. Her reason for choosing it is that it was PINK and pink books are the best kind of books aren't they? She loves it so much she slept with it last night.

Last year I gave some books to my Son's Preschool to add to their library. I wanted to do something similar this year so I decided to give books to each of the children in my Son's Kindergarten class. I had a collection of gorgeous little Cocky's Circle books that I had collected and I thought they would be perfect.

I wrapped them up (with wrapping paper I had lying around) and gave them to James' teacher to hand out to her class on the day. I also gave her a little media pack including information about International Book Giving Day including its aims and its origins. The more people who know about this wonderful initiative the better!

When I went to pick up James this afternoon, I was absolutely shocked when I was presented with a folder full of beautiful Thank You letters from all the children in the class. I almost cried with sheer joy! It made my heart sing and I walked home with a HUGE smile on my face. It certainly made my day.

Here are the the adorable notes I received and I will cherish them forever.

There is nothing more satisfying than sharing the joy of books with children. I have had a wonderful International Book Giving Day and I hope all the children who received books today enjoy reading them.

Did you give a book today? How did you celebrate International Book Giving Day?

  1. Thanks for dropping by Amy! We had such a wonderful time sharing our love of books on International Book Giving Day. Whenever I talked with friends about IBGD, they were all so excited about it and many gave books too!
