Nonfiction Reading Adventure: Fly Guy Presents Sharks

I love Tedd Arnold's quirky humour, so when I saw his nonfiction book Fly Guy Presents Sharks at the library I thought it would be a fun read for James. I was right!

Buzz and his pet fly called Fly Guy take a trip to an aquarium to see the sharks. Buzz and Fly Guy learn lots of interesting facts about shark characteristics, including their teeth, their skin (denticles), their super senses, their lifecycle and diet.

This is a great introduction to sharks for younger readers and is full of interesting shark facts. It is part of Scholastic's Leveled Readers and it is a Grade 3 Level reader which appeals to K-2nd Graders. A great feature is when new tricky words are introduced their pronunciation is included, such as cartilage: KAR-tuh-lij.

The book is full of colour photographs which have been cleverly incorporated into Arnold's illustrations of the aquarium and the characters Buzz and Fly Guy. Some of the close up photographs of shark teeth and skin are pretty amazing.

James thought it was "awesome" and loved sharing the shark facts with the rest of the family.

Nonfiction Adventures from our Friends:
KC Edventures shared some interesting nonfiction books about farm life, including Our Farm: Four Seasons with Five Kids on one Family's Farm. So if you are about to visit a farm or even a petting zoo, these books would be a great resource.
